Agência Brasil – Brazilian bicycle manufacturers produced 773,641 units in 2018, up 15.9 percent from 2017’s 667,363, according to figures released in São Paulo today (Jan. 14) by Brazilian association of manufacturers of bicycles and similar vehicles Abraciclo.
According to Cyro Gazola, head of Abraciclo’s bicycle division, the resumption of business after four years of decline was brought about by a larger demand, more competitive prices, and the expansion of urban mobility.
“This clearly shows the positive impact of the expansion of the network of bike paths in Brazilian cities,” he said. He also attributes the increase to a reduction in insolvency among consumers, coupled with an increase in the supply of credit by financial institutions.
Forecasts
According to Abraciclo, Brazil’s production of bicycles is likely to see a 10.8 percent increase in 2019, reaching total of 857 thousand units.
The estimate, Gazola said, is based on the changes and the adoption of new measures in the economy that may take place under the new administration, in addition to the continued launch of new bicycles with more added value.
The market senses and responds positively to the continuous improvement in technology and the wide supply of national goods and brands with affordable prices, he went on to argue.
